Our Story
Sloe Beauty started with a pretty basic frustration: why is getting rid of unwanted hair still this painful, this expensive, and this time-consuming in 2024
Where It Started
My name is Daisy, and for as long as I can remember, dealing with unwanted hair has been part of my daily life. Not something I chose. Just something I had to deal with. Every single day.
My mornings always started the same way: standing at the mirror with tweezers before anyone else woke up. Rearranging plans around waxing appointments. Wearing a certain outfit because I forgot to shave that morning. It sounds like a small thing, but when you add it all up over weeks and months and years, the time, the money, the irritation, the ingrown hairs, the self-consciousness, it’s a lot.
I tried everything I could find, razors that promised smooth skin and gave me razor burn. Waxing that left me red and irritated for days. Depilatory creams that smelled terrible and burned my skin. I even tried laser, which was expensive, hurt, and after months of sessions, barely made a dent on my lighter hairs.
None of it fixed the actual problem. Everything was a band-aid that wore off in a day or two and needed doing all over again.
The Turning Point
At some point I stopped looking for the next beauty product and started looking at the actual research. Not Reddit threads or influencer posts. Real clinical studies on hair growth biology and what affects it.
That’s how I found Cyperus rotundus.
It’s a plant, a type of nutgrass, that’s been part of Egyptian and Middle Eastern beauty traditions for hundreds of years. But the history wasn’t what got my attention. It was a study from 2014 in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal where researchers found that using Cyperus rotundus oil on the skin produced hair reduction results on the same level as the Alexandrite laser. On both dark and light hair. Without any serious side effects.
Honestly, I was skeptical. A plant that works as well as laser? It sounded too good. But the study was peer-reviewed and published in a respected medical journal, and when I read the science behind it, the mechanism actually made sense. The oil’s active compounds block androgen receptors at the hair follicle, which slows growth right at the biological source.
So I ordered some pure Cyperus rotundus oil and started testing it on myself. Within a few weeks, my regrowth felt softer. By month two, I was shaving half as often. By month four, areas that used to need daily attention barely had any visible hair left.
Why Sloe Beauty Exists
I wanted to get this into the hands of everyone dealing with the same thing I was. But the pure oil on its own had problems. It was greasy. The quality was all over the place depending on the supplier. And it was missing the extra skin care benefits that a good formula should have.
I spent 8 months working with a formulation lab on my own through trial and error to build a blend that actually delivers the Cyperus rotundus extract in a way that absorbs properly, feels good on your skin, and adds real benefits. Peppermint for soothing. Lemon for brightening. Vitamin E for moisture and protection.
The name "Sloe Beauty" was inspired by the idea of "slow beauty," that real results come from patience and consistency, not overnight miracles.
What We Believe In
Science Over Hype
We don’t make miracle promises. We point to published research, cite where it comes from, and give you honest timelines. If the clinical study says six months for full results, that’s what we’ll tell you. We’re not going to promise you woke-up-like-this skin in a week.
Straight Talk Over Marketing Speak
Every ingredient in our formula is listed and explained. We don’t hide behind vague phrases like “proprietary botanical complex.” You deserve to know exactly what you’re putting on your skin and why each ingredient is there.
Affordable, Not Exclusive
A full course of professional laser treatment costs $1,000 to $2,000 or more, and it doesn’t even work for everyone. We think effective hair reduction should be something anyone can try, no matter their hair color, skin tone, or budget. That’s why we start at $25.99.
Long-Term Thinking
A lot of the beauty industry makes its money by selling you things you need to buy over and over again, forever. We’d honestly rather sell you something that makes the problem go away over time. Our goal is for you to need us less as the weeks go on. Not more.
Our Promise to You
- 100% plant-based formula. No parabens, no synthetic chemicals, no artificial fragrances.
- Clinically studied active ingredient. Backed by published, peer-reviewed research.
- Honest expectations. We’ll tell you what to expect and when. No bait-and-switch timelines.
